That said, I see little reason to believe that Kelly will not work out in Columbus. You can have the most entertaining flying circus passing game in college football (which Ohio State has attained over the past few years), but if you can't run the ball consistently on 3rd and 4th and one, you don't win championships (which pretty much describes Ohio State over the past few years and in the last three losses to Michigan).
Kelly has more resources than he had in Westwood. That's certainly no secret. The top two RBs are as good, or better, than any anywhere. It will be interesting to see how he uses them. If he can transfer the UCLA running game to Ohio State, the sky's the limit this fall.
Bottom line: It better work -- or else. Usually it's beat Michigan, win Big Ten and get into the playoffs. That's a successful season and keeps most of the critics silent, or at least muffled. That time-honored blueprint for success at Ohio State has changed in 2024, and Chip Kelly is THE key as to whether the elusive NC is attainable.
As for putting fans in the stands, that takes care of itself if the coach wins. A new, big-name head coach can boost ticket sales, but that's short term if he doesn't win.
