I liked Chip as a game planner and offensive coach. However, I don't think he had the work ethic needed to thrive at UCLA in recruiting.

Previously he coached at Oregon, a program at the time with no serious local rivals and the backing of Phil Knight and Nike.

I don't think he knew what it took to win here when he signed on.
