Ohio's starting LT and best offensive lineman was injured at Oregon and is out for the year. Prior to the injury, Ohio made most of its rushing yards going left, over the LT and RG, Donnie Jackson, a preseason All America. The center, a transfer from Alabama has been solid all season.
Yesterday, the backup at LT was in a word horrible. He was like the old-fashioned revolving door at the super market. Thus, Ohio could not run left. Nebraska knew the run game was going right and stoned it -- all day. (Nebraska, despite what happened vs. Indiana last week is better than its record.) The Ohio quarterback and the wide receivers saved the day.
Down late in the fourth quarter, Ohio pulled out all the stops on the last drive. Vanilla offense, saving something for another day? That's laughable. After 6 games, you can put new offense it, but you certainly aren't saving things for down the road. It Ohio lost yesterday, their goal of winning the Big Ten was pretty much toast.
And, I'm sure you'll enjoy this, there was a some grumbling in my section afterwards over Kelly's play calling. Chip didn't have his best day. He's got to find a LT.
If Ohio doesn't fix the O line problems this week, the Bucks will lose at Penn State. Right now Ohio is inconsistent, a little overrated at No. 4.
The Ohio defense won this game in the fourth quarter. It played well all day and was lights out when the game was on the line in the final quarter.
