yes agree about our prevent defense, Their #1 QB is out and the 2nd stringer is mostly a running threat - not a good idea late in a game your team is losing while the clock runs down. So they had what must be their third stringer in at QB and our response was to rush 3 and pull 8 back into coverage. This puts zero pressure on a sub QB after we had totally befuddled the starter with late shifts and bringing pressure, we gave the newbie all the time in the world to keep a clear head and wait for one of his receivers to work into some separation. Very frustrating.
But this is the second game in a row in which Bieniemy has painstakingly set up a chance to throw deep.
Second half vs Rutgers every series began. with one of those dumb runs up the middle for one yard and a cloud of dust, Nada. Then after a whole bunch of those on every first and ten, he had Garbers fake the handoff up the middle and hit Sturdivant long down the right sideline for a touchdown.
Today it was Gilmer, The TV kept showing replays of Gilmer heading out strong then planting his foot hard and breaking it off short toward the outside for a short throw and catch for maybe five yards or so It was obvious after seeing that several times that one or these plays, Gilmer was going to plant that foot hard but just keep going on a flat out sprint long while Garbers faked the look for another short pass and threw long. He did and he did and it worked like a charm,
Those two long passes were an element that had been completely missing from our offense the first half of the season,
It's just one play a game but it was a beautiful play
