Yes, it seems players will soon be contractors and should receive a 1099 each year to account for their taxable income.

That doesn't bother me at all. What would bother me is that they'd be contracted to Ucla which is governed by the NCAA which, in football, is extinct.

Why should football, which generates most of the $100million Ucla athletics sees each year surrender their money to Morgan Center which seeks to impose NCAA control? It's stupid.

Let's make the players contractors to a sports management company which itself would be an outside contractor to Morgan Center. There is no further need to pretend that football has any connection whatsoever to the NCAA.

Think about how the cash flow works. The football team earns $100,000,000 annually. Under Jarmond's idea that money gets paid to Morgan Center. That makes football and its wealth subject to NCAA regulations, which no longer apply to or are relevant in football. Stupid for football to do this, but it keeps paying Morgan Center and funds their pensions.

Why not keep the money outside of Morgan Center thereby removing the NCAA completely and let Morgan Center's contract call for them receiving an agreed upon preferred return of cash each year, plus requirements that the players (subcontractors) be students in good standing at Ucla?

We need to separate from the NCAA and from Morgan Center.

If Ucla were truly elite, they'd have thought of this already and would be making progress toward accommodating the new business of CFB. Instead, and contrary to their self-referential "eliteness", they clearly communicate to us their intent to cleave to the dead carcass of the NCAA. Jarmond's letter makes this clear.

Ucla has no intention of innovating or adjusting in any material way to the new age we are seeing in the CFB business. Since they can't innovate, they should simply copy the Oregon model where a corporate sponsor pays the players, hires the coaches and provides all the clothing and materials.

Just do it.

Ucla is rigidly, interminably inept and stupid.
