Terrific when they win under any and all circumstances. Great to see them play any time, but it's always better when they win.
Dopamine does that.
But once the hormone burst subsides, we'll still be that weak, lovable and completely irrelevant football program playing out the string of meaningless exhibition games in a fake season. That we are bankrupt and were forced to our knees to accept the worst B10 schedule in history in exchange for a full conference revenue share from our new masters will be gladly pushed from our minds for a time by the joy we feel by beating a greatly reduced Hawkeyes team using their fourth and then fifth string, and final, QB.
This is where we are as a program. Once the Champions of New Year's Day, we savor any low quality win we can find. We fans can be had now for the price of scraping by against mediocre opponents and our idiotic emotions can be re-lit by the prospect of receiving a gratuitous invitation to a carnival clown bowl game.
We are greatly diminished. The program is leaderless and directionless. There is no cavalry riding to our rescue. This is Bruin football in 2024 and very likely again in 2025.
But, the uni's were great and a win is a win.
