Let's start with $167.7 million in debt, $130mm incurred under Jarmond's tenor. Five straight years of operating at a loss, 3 under Jarmond (soon to be four of six).
Jarmond's athletic department is bankrupt and he had the laboring hand in that outcome.
Bankruptcy is designed to help debtors gain a fresh start and begin repaying debts. It requires a course correction for the debtor, to terminate loss making activity and encourage profit making activity.
There is no course correction at Ucla. No purging of the bureaucrats who destroyed the department (on the contrary, extending them), no change in its manner or scope of operation. No change in leadership. Just a mentally numb. soulless, lifeless extension of failure.
This is insane. It's also real. Ucla is insane. It's will has been replaced by conforming state bureaucracy. It's insanity will drive Ucla off the field of D1 CFB over time.
Programs like Oregon are not insane and they will prosper. Even hated Sc, with its comical cascade of errors is at least energetically trying to succeed and eventually, perhaps unevenly, they will. Ucla won't.
Resign yourself to it. When you feel happiness and pride watching the uniforms play games, know that you are looking into our deep past. The courage of the players and coaches who built that heritage is no more.
Ucla Football is now schedule fodder for TV executives and for serious football competitors. Our games are now essentially payday games.
We are a 50 - 90 ranked program now and though we can win field goal games against our peers, we're incapable of beating top teams and will get consistently routed by great teams that comprise the top 20.
This is Jarmond. This is what Ucla just bought more of. Bankrupt and insane.
