my instant smart alert response of course is that we qualify - we have a little to put on the field - very little....
I do think it's too soon to teal whether or not Foster "can coach" or is "up to the job." There's a learning curve in any profession and of necessity he has to do his learning (about how to be a HC) on the job. (No interest in the Jarmond discussion here beyond that the whole thing was blown when they didn't let Chip go at the end of his final year instead of waiting three months to save money - or let him find a landing place - doesn't matter, - nor im I sure whose decision that was: Jarmojnd's or his superiors in UCLA administration - point is, we saved money and screwed our program by waiting.)
When Foster was hired, with no experience as a head man, tabbing Bieniemy for his experience, his familiarity and his availability seemed a good idea. There just weren't a lot of options available. And when you hire an OC, you have to rely on him to choose his position coaches. Seems to me the biggest problem was Bieniemy's offense and his O staff - especially Castillo.
IMO we won't know much about Foster until we see how he adjusts - what he has learned this first year. And - as I said - learning curve - takes time.
But doing more with less seems it would be an extremely desireable trait to have on our side at this time. Hoping Sunseri has that trait - and we find the money to keep Malloe on our side as well. No matter what, next year will surely require much patience on behalf of us all - hoping for the future or just waiting it out.
