So you like participation trophies. I get it, it’s 2020! Winning the Big 12 is not similar to winning the SEC. Winning a group of 5 is not equal to the Big 10. There is nothing magical about winning a mediocre conference.
The NFL comparison is inapplicable. The non-power conferences and the 12 or ACC don’t play similar schedules to the SEC. It’s the grind of the SEC is what makes it so damn hard. You have to play Tenn, Bama, texas, Georgia, ole miss etc. there is nothing comparable in the other conferences. They also don’t have similar players like the NFL does. What makes the NFL work is that they all have the same access to players. There is a salary cap. None of that exists in college, therefore the 5th team in the SEC is much better than the winner of the 12 or a non-power conference. No team in the 12 has EVER won a NC. No team in a non-power conference. Only Clemson, Florida state and Miami has ever won a championship that are not in the sec or 10.
It’s precisely why there has to be a premier league. You need similarly situated teams playing each other. It’s sheer stupidity to give the champ of a non-power conference (or the ACC or 12) a golden ticket of the goal is to determine the best team. They are given an invite because orange slices would be frowned upon.
