to UCLA football (or basketball or voleyball or whatever) is because it is *UCLA* football (or basketball or voleyball or whatever) and that if you sever that connection, I would no longer have that allegiance to the teams that happen to call themselves Bruins, and you're calling me a "fool" for that? WT actual F?
Allegiance to Ucla is likely not happening.
But it is. It is my allegiance you're talking about. You don't get to decide whether it's happening or not. In fact, you have absolutely no say on what drives it, how far it goes, or how long it lasts. It is 100% *my* call.
What you likely have are fond memories of yourself and those around you at that time in your life, which, more broadly, you look back on fondly also.
Obviously, if I had the worst time of my life while I was at UCLA, I would not have been a UCLA fan now, would I?
Your allegiance isn't strictly to Ucla, it's to yourself and those you enjoy, it just happened to take place at Ucla. The school is a passive backdrop. The same feeling would arise if you'd attended somewhere else. Ucla, per se, had little to do with your experience.
What are you talking about? That time of my life took place at UCLA and UCLA as an institution and as a collection of people that I interacted with while I was over there had *everything* to do with the fact that I had an awesome time there. So yeah, that allegiance is to UCLA. not a bunch of randos who happened to be playing ball or practicing elsewhere around the same campus. The school is what connected us.
you shouldn't continue to frame yourself as a Bruin football fan if the state run bureaucracy is more preeminent in your mind than the team itself. Those who cleave to the state bureaucracy do so because it helps them feel better about themselves, more powerful, smarter, better than others, elite.
I reiterate. I went to UCLA. That was my school. I loved my time there. I loved the people there. And that love extends to the team that's part of that same school. All this sh*t you throw at me about state run bureaucracies and feeling better about myself, being elite and all that garbage is just a stream of nonsense that simply ignores that very simple fact. I follow UCLA teams because they are part of UCLA. It's a f***ing tribal connection and it's real. I'm sorry that you don't (can't) feel that.
Those who prefer the football team just like watching the team and enjoy the action on the field and surrounding the players and coaches. These are two different people.
I'm sorry, are you saying that you love UCLA football because of the product on the field? Or because of the coaching staff? Or because of the players? I coulda sworn that you hated every one of those things.
Bruins yes, Ucla no.
Again, buddy. Look at the banner on this site. Look at the colors. This is a UCLA football board. We are here because we love UCLA football. Take either part out, UCLA or football, there is no UCLA football.
I'm beginning to see why you face so much derision on this board. Can't say it's not well-earned.
