best player I ever saw. Only one I remember who had cheers in his honor with a cheer by his school (MooMAW!) snd of course an answer by the other team's student section (MawMOO!). There were a whole lot of 'em as he made great plays all the time on both sides of the ball - center on offense and LB on defense for HC Henry R. "Red" Sanders' single wing powerhouse teams.
Moomaw died Monday in Pasadena at age 93. He as a consensus All American and finished fourth in the Heisman voting in 1952. That year his marquee game was against Wisconsin and the great Alan Ameche. The Badgers came into the game averaging 240 yards on the ground but the Moomaw-led UCLA defense held them to a grand total of 48.
