I feel like that’s a bad cycle to get in.

IMO, unless you have unlimited funds, you should recruit good qb’s out of HS. Developed them. And then pay to keep them, if they turn out. Paying for renal qb’s, you’re bringing in a new guy practically every year. You’re always paying a huge chunk of your disposable income to the qb. They have to learn the offense and get familiar w the personnel. There’s a lot of waste. Instead, bring in good HS qb”s. Coach them up for a couple of years. Get them familiar with the system. If all goes to plan, start them as a junior. Then give them a pay raise if you want to keep them.

As an aside, these should be multi-year contracts. They are professionals. They shouldn’t be able to leave w/o a buyout. Sure they can transfer. Can’t stop that. Shouldn’t stop that. But they are being paid to play football. If they are in a multi-year, and transfer they are in breach of their contract. There should be injunctive relief to prevent them from playing anywhere else. Attend anywhere you want. But if you leave you are in breach. Iow, like a coaches contract, there should be a buyout. To repeat, they can go to school anywhere they want, but they are under contract to play football for you.

But back to the point, throwing money at at transfer QB’s is a dumb approach for everyone but the schools with piles and piles of money. Imo
