that at the end of the Bob Toledo era many fans got into games about how they felt about Toledo and how that played into a Toledo vs. Donahue "war". It had some similarity to some fans who hated Jim Harrick supporting Steve Lavin just to try to make a point (Lavin's weak background actually became a strength for the purposes of their argument).
It really seemed that some Dorrell supporters took any criticism of him as if it was a sinister plot to prop up Toledo. That Dorrell, who had been working as a receivers coach in the NFL, and had never been an autonomous coordinator, quickly showed he wasn't up to a difficult job led to many posters seeking to rationalize previous takes, rather than giving objective takes - thus the discussion got ugly.
