If he stayed, I'm guessing we'd have to pay him out anyway.
Dude could make a nice paycheck and get a good education being a backup, maybe deep backup, QB. I'm sure this isn't the direction he'll go, but could he squeeze another year of eligibility out of the NCAA? They seem to be handing out another year of eligibility like Oprah Winfrey.
I'm kind of an advocate for "pay them and give them freedom of movement without pain" (a tribute to Doans pills). But, it seems distasteful, at the QB position*, to pay a guy to transfer in with the appearance that he will at least be the "first shot" guy at the position. Then, almost immediately, pay another guy more, to come in and be the "first shot" (in this case lock starter).
I'm for treating the guys like it's the "real world." But, in the real world, a company doesn't hire a person. Then, immediately hire another person to do the same job and essentially take away the first guys responsibilities. That doesn't happen. That would seem to be a petri dish for breeding a disloyal workforce. In the "real world" and on a football team.
I assume Foz and Friends are actively helping Aguilar find a landing spot.
I wish we'd just kept Justin Martyn and used the money elsewhere.
I guess, in the end, all you can say is .... Welcome Nico!
*Particularly at QB. They don't share time in the position. If you're the backup QB, the plan is for you not to play meaningful minutes.
