HC is a figurehead. HC still promotes the University's name and image. Whether one liked or dislikes Nick Saban, he still pushed Alabama football.
Football is still comprised of coaching staffs. OCs, DCs, assistant coaches leave all the time, but you don't concern yourself with any of them. You follow the program. And honestly, do you really blame HCs these days when the media and fanbase start the firing process the day after they're hired.
Terry Donahue was the face of UCLA football for my younger life into adulthood. When he left, UCLA football didn't cease to exist. The rivalry with $c didn't cease to exist. UCLA football was what fans followed and the HC is there to try to make that name bigger and better.
So why would anyone think my connection to UCLA football would not weaken when player turnover is rampant? I'm supposed to sing the school song side by side with the players who are leaving next week for another program?
There's no I in team, but definitely is an M and an E.
