Seems like in the post spider tack era, starting pitchers have to throw harder to attain the same or elevated spin rate to get more MPH (high 90's) or more movement on breaking pitches.
Just my speculation. Most everyone throws mid 90's four seam fastball these days, that's nothing special, and perhaps the desire to push the threshold to attain upper 90's leads to more arm injuries, like revving your engine at 110% for long periods.
More arm torque = higher spin rate = more mph = more arm injuries.
I'd be interested in hearing what other people think.
