The Ucla Elites have gutted the Rose Bowl experience. They've also ruined the tv viewing experience by depleting the sunny side seats in favor of the shady side. They don't know what business they're in. Ticket prices have soared while the quality and relevance of the program has crashed. This is a recipe for failure, and that's what we're seeing.
Ucla football is in the TV business. The Rose Bowl is their studio. Their idiotic ticket pricing and venue management have made it look empty and desperate. They may be able to fix it quickly and easily:
1). Offer tickets for $10 a throw in the week leading up to any home game where prior tickets sales are not 65,000+. Yes, you may cannibalize some full price sales, but you'll get people to the venue. And right now, that's what's lacking and needed. For low interest non-conference opponents, consider offering tickets for $1 the day before the game.
2). Offer incentives to season seat holders to return to the sunny side. I was over there for 35 years and it was great. Get the TV stage set to look inviting. Put people back on that side of the stadium.
Business management is offensive to the Elites, so I wouldn't expect anything like using price as a weapon to occur to them. They'll just keep smiling and counting down to fat pensions in retirement while the program continues to twist in the wind.
