I've also come off the "experienced head coach" train a bit. So many of those lower conference guys have shat the bed when they moved up. You're trying to find Kalen Deboer or young Urban Meyer but there are just not a lot of those out there. Many are flashes in the pan.

I'm also not so sure about the No Coordinators stance. Schools find good coaches there. No path comes without serious risk.

To me, Fisch should be the choice among realistic options. But, I'm soft on that because he could easily miss and end up being a very costly mistake. The thing I like about Fisch is his reputation as a recruiter and as a guy who actively solicits support from donors and fans. I'm not sure what other sitting head coaches come with that trait. I'm open to them if they're out there. I don't want a football nerd like Chip or an introvert like Jonathan Smith.

Right now, I'm kinda rooting for Skipper (after some more wins) to get the job with a modest buyout in case we need to act later. I've always been all for going outside the program and starting anew, but I'm wary of tossing aside something that works just to jump into an unknown. The doubt I have about Skipper is whether he can get money out of donors' pockets as effectively as Fisch, who I am very confident could do it.

You have to be careful not to get caught up in the feel-good emotions of the turnaround, but it's also hard to deny that Skipper/Jerry/Coyle aren't doing a legitimately good coaching job right now.
