I had assumed the poor tackling was a combination of talent and coaching, but I thought it was an issue of months of poor coaching and not something that could be fixed in a few weeks.
Nico looked like he hit his knee - that can be very painful without causing serious injury. I'm hoping that's all it was and that it doesn't develop bruising or swelling later. Not exactly sure what happened to Habermehl but glad he came back.
The ref was awful. The game was clearly moving too fast for her.
I'm not sure what was going on with our OL. They didn't really open up the holes they did in the last two games and Nico had a lot less time to throw than in those games too. Plus there were the false starts and holds. I'm not sure whether they underplayed or whether Maryland had better talent or scheme. Nico looked worse but some of it was not having time to throw and some of it was our receivers not making catches.
We took a penalty on a FG attempt, missed another, turned the ball over twice in the red zone (once theirs, once ours for the Pick 6), and don't even get me started on all the penalties that got big plays called back. This could have been a bigger win if we were less sloppy.
Passing up on 4th and 2 was a mistake - especially after you ran inside on 3rd and 3. I'm glad we went for it on 4th and 10.
