Some teams hire ex-NFL guys and have great success. We hire Jim Mora and it didn't work for us.

Some teams hire former players and have great success. We hire Karl Dorrell and DeShaun Foster.

Some teams hire coaches who have had success at other P5/P4 teams, or coaches who had that success, then failed in the NFL and now became available, and that works well for them. We hired Rick Neuheisel and Chip Kelly and it didn't work for us.

I don't think there is a resume-based formula that you can apply to guarantee coaching success.
