Tom Herman, Jim McElwain, Dan Hawkins, Dirk Koetter, Mike MacIntyre, Luke Fickell, Scott Frost, Kevin Sumlin
Herman was 36-18 in four years at Texas with four bowl wins and three final top-25 rankings. Not up to Texas standards but UCLA fans would be happy with these results.
McElwain, MacIntyre and Frost were hired off just one good year. Poor choices.
Sumlin was hired off two good years and went 51-26 with three bowl wins, taking over a program that was one game over .500 the previous four seasons. Not that bad.
Hawkins and Koetter were outright failures, but at Boise St rolled up big win totals against weak competition.
Fickell turned out to be the biggest bust of them all but was hired off an impressive record in six seasons at a fairly high level program. So probably the only one on the list that looked like an excellent candidate and failed.
