He merely replaced him at JMU.

Chesney has won a lot of games at three different stops as a head coach. You can only beat who you play.

One game against WSU won't necessarily tell you much. Win or lose, Chesney's body of work shows promise. What that game will tell you (if JMU loses) is that UCLA's chances of hiring Chesney go way up, both because JMU will not be in the CFP and because Penn St. will lose any interest they may have in him.

If you're waiting for a coach who has racked up a lot of quality wins you're going to be waiting a long time because those guys are out of our reach. We have to identify a guy who is earlier along on his career path. The next big thing, but not too big yet.

We may even be too late for that, because as it stands now we might still lose Chesney to Penn St.

I say Go Cougars.
