As advertised, JMU is very well-coached on D and really gets after the QB. They also stuffed the run game and are fast/intense. Gave up 177 yards total and MINUS 26 rushing yards. Impressive.
The freshman DL Sahir West (Sun Belt freshman of the year) is a star. Wow, he is good. Watch the last few minutes of the game if you can. He is a must have. Big, fast, aggressive, and apparently still growing.
They got beat deep a couple of times in the first half. Left their corners out there alone a lot. Seems like a high risk high reward pass defense.
Once again, JMU held their opponent to zero points in the second half. I think they did that six times this year.
They beat up the opposing QB and knocked him out of the game in the 3rd quarter.
Their QB (Sun Belt POY) is pretty good but kind of small time, not close to Nico.
Their WR's are nothing special.
They made two costly turnovers in the second half to keep the game uncomfortable well into the 4th quarter. But the D just stuffed Troy anyway.
The RB, Knight, is small but strong, kind of like Quizz Rogers. Ran for over 200 yards. We need him.
The offense was solid, not great. Dropped a lot of balls. It was very cold but Troy seemed to have no trouble catching the ball. I don't see a lot of help at WR. JMU is good at running the ball and using the QB in the run game. Well-suited for Nico.
Chesney has a calm, confident demeanor on the sideline. Took a knee driving late in the 4th, up by 17 with a lot of time left. Did not go for style points.
Chesney is very good on TV (post game interview). Nothing but positive energy. Apparently, his dad (also a coach) is a constant presence around him.
That Sun Belt guy on the Locked On Podcast the other day was spot on about JMU. They play great D, they run the ball, they pressure the QB, the QB runs the ball, they're sound across the board. Not a glitzy passing game, though.
I must conclude, however, by clarifying that Bob Chesney is Bob Chesney, and not Curt Cignetti. They are two different people. To say that he is exactly like Curt Cignetti would be wrong. To expect miracles from Chesney is a sin beyond forgiveness, so PLEASE STOP with the comparisons.
Once again, Bob Chesney is not Curt Cignetti. They are also not the same age or height, and they talk different. Pretty sure they have different parents, too. One's name is Bob, and the other is Curt, so if you yell "Hey, Bob!" or "Hey, Curt!", only one will turn around.
