In contemplating this past season I was ready to conclude that I only dreamt we won three games, as I could not explain how we could look so awful at the start of the year against weak opposition, turn it around against better competition, and then fizzle out. The fallacy in my thinking is that at 0-3 we were the worst team in the country because we were thrashed by weak opponents UNLV and New Mexico. As it turns out UNLV won 10 games, as did Utah, and New Mexico won 9 games. So now I understand that we got our three wins while a blank slate that opponents finally figured out, and that we had a tougher schedule than realized, with a very mediocre team unlikely to beat anyone except a weak opponent.
