I was flying for most of Saturday so the only things I really got to see was Oregon score 21 unanswered points at some point in the 2nd quarter during a layover. In that time, things just looked like an NFL team against a high school team. At half time, I went to my gate and pretty much read for a while. I just didn't want to see much more and at some point I turned on the game in the 4th quarter to see how much of a slaughter it was and saw that JMU had score points and Oregon hadn't scored much at all in the 2nd half. I got to see JMU score on a 99 yard drive late.
The takeaway for now was that team never quit. They made 2nd half adjustments and bottom line is JMU is not in the same ballpark with NIL money and talent, but did find a way to outperform Oregon in the 2nd half. So while I don't expect any NC's or CFP spots any time soon, I am encouraged that Chesney had guys that fight no matter what and I saw two games that JMU outperformed in the 2nd half at the end of the year. Right now, that is one thing I wanted to see in a hire, so hopefully he can get more talent from the pool and raise to the next level.
I also met a couple during vacation who actually go to JMU and they really loved Chesney and really bummed to see him leaving.
