Ga Tech - lived in Atlanta for a minute when I was little kid. I thought the blue and gold colors, yellowjacket mascot, and the "ramblin' wreck from Georgia Tech" combo was muuuch cooler than Georgia's red and black and bulldog. First team I got crap for liking, as everyone was a Georgia fan.
Miss St. Wife's family, and a good friend are State families.
Washington. Went to a UCLA game at Washington. Great experience. Including...we were on a chartered boat w/ about 60 Husky fans going to the stadium. My friends told the organizer it was my birthday. She had me stand up in full UCLA fan garb, and had the crow sing happy birthday to me. (I was not a kid). I thought that was pretty classy of the crowd.
Memphis. Wife and I were in Memphis around Christmas. A year or two after they knocked us out of the final four. I had my UCLA cap on. People were very friendly, wanted to chat. We went to a bar and watched Memphis play in a bowl game. Fun crowd, fun time. So, I'll always cheer for Memphis.
I don't "follow" any of those teams. But, I'll watch them and cheer for them.
As for a side object of hate: Ole Miss. Ole Miss* fans, and Ole Miss people in general, are as obnoxious as they come. Almost as bad as sc people. It's fitting that both schools got screwed by Kiffy, albeit in different ways.
*from my experience with Ole Miss people, I coined a phrase "there's always a king of the sh*t pile." No matter crapppy a place you go to is, there's always someone on top, or that thinks they're on top. And, those people are as arrogant and obnoxious as anyone anywhere. You'd think "it's mississippi" But, nope, there's always a king of the sh*t pile.
