He'd probably be his dad's OC at UCLA right now. And a dumbed down version of Mazzone's already pretty simplistic system is way too easy to figure out once there is tape. It takes a bit more and I just don't believe he has it. He seems to be a decent position coach, there's worse ways to make a living than being a journeyman position coach in college football, but I just don't see too much more than that coming from him.
