Do you have data that supports plenty of people pray to a higher power in life or death of situations? Or anecdotes only? I know a number of people thst have been in such circumstances (esp close family) that have never done this. I have also had my share of close calls and never prayed. In any case, prayer for many may just be a coping mechanism in such a trying situation, and it doesn't change the fate of the individual (good or bad).
Near death experiences reported from people can be very inconsistent. Many of them have been proven false to events that occurred in the real world. Not to dismiss such experiences that people are really convinced of their veracity, but these things are likely occur on such when their brains/minds are being deprived essential fuel to function properly.
Faith is fine to have. Follow whatever convictions that make you a better person. Believe or don't believe whatever you want. But I believe faith/religion/spirituality (and their absence) etc. should be kept to the individual selves.
