According to everything I have read, it was a bequest to the Athletic Dept, $X for Football, $Y for Basketball, $Z for Rugby. It as not designated for a specific thing (like NIL, or paying Chesney, etc)
So the B1G TV contract can be diverted from football to something else, as these funds can replace it.
Money is fungible. Same thing works for the government. Raise a fee and they will only spend the fee money on X. But the money they would have spent on X they can now spend on something else. CA Lottery is a perfect example.
So the Athletic Department can basically do anything they want with the money. Will they pay down debt? Probably. They owe a ton of money. Maybe they will use it to buy out Pasadena.
I shouldn't have been so declarative on the debt repayment. I guess it depends on if the Uni wants there funds back.
