Just a guess, but all that seemed to be more pranks that were going on. I'm sure was a contributing factor. There's the Red Sanders quote out there and he was WAY before my time. Just wondered if the UCLA-$c rivalry had really kicked in to that point of if that was still drumming up the intensity.
The more I read, $c didn't look all that good in the 50's and Ucla was winning that. $c looked different after McKay. When I was in high school in the 80's, you were a trojan fan or a Bruin fan. There were recruiting battles. There was a hatred. Was curious when that hatred really kicked in.
