non-dynamic sports...probably not. Baseball and cricket are the 1st two sports that come to mind. Baseball is an individual sport wrapped in team trappings. Same with cricket.
I can posit some plausible "greatest coach" ever for the dynamic sports...Lombardi/Belichick, Pep Guardiola, Wooden/Jackson, Bowman, etc.
the greatest baseball coaches of all time? Old timey dudes...Casey Stengel, Joe McCarthy, Connie Mack.
The guy who innovated "the shift" has been lost to time. But Knute Rockne innovating the forward pass? Legendary.
