It's the first game of the season for two teams with brand new coaches. It has a rivalry aspect to it, and anything could happen, really. It's basically a 51/49 game with the edge going to Cal because it's a home game.
It is an interesting game for sure and is important to recruiting. But these early season games often fade in significance when it comes to telling the narrative of a season.
Instead, I think it's the entire month of September that will tell us a lot. If we win 3/4 we will be looking strong to have a pretty good season. Relatively speaking, it's kind of a fat pitch right over the middle of the plate.
