The TV rights for college football alone are worth $4+ billion, just counting the major conferences.
Estimates put total NIL spending at roughly $1–2 billion.
And in the major professional sports leagues, players generally receive around 50% of league revenue.
So the issue isn't comparing what college athletes used to make—which was essentially nothing. The real question is what they are worth today based on the enormous amount of revenue they generate.
