When I was at UCLA the athletics department operated out of a WWII barracks type building that faced Westwood Blvd. Wilber Johns was the AD and IIRC correctly the athletic department was funded by ASUCLA
Boy, have things changed, driven by televising the games, which led to the creation of sports only networks. Money flowed in and everyone benefited except the players. That changed when NIL became into being. A few college football players are now millionaires.
On top of all that we have on line sports betting that seems to come in many flavors. The sports monster just keeps growing more heads.
And this is so America, because it's all about the money. So sad.
