in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing. On both offense and defense.
Teams go from 3 wide revceivers to 3 tight ends, and everyone is expected to know what they're supposed to do on any given play.
People used to think you had to play one running back the entire game, or at least most of it. Now, you have 3rd down specialists, pass catching specialists, short yardage specialists, etc.
Teams used to have 11 starters, 11 second stringers who got spot duty only, and everyone else sat on the bench and waited until next year, or until someone got hurt.
Now, if a player is good enough to be on the team, he better be good enough to be on the field.
That goes for the O-line too. If 5 guys can play as one line, then why not 6? If 6, why not 7? You see where this is going.
