UCLA was ranked #110 in total defense giving up 465 yards a game. So they got to 8-0 simply by outscoring the other opponents defense. So there was definitely a flaw in that UCLA team that could potentially lose to a bad team.
I can't imagine any team going undefeated with a defense ranked practically last in college football.
This years UCLA defense is ranked #20.
You are a lot less likely to lose to a bad team when you have a good defense.
