We're building small (700sf) and with the fire-safe stuff like Hardie and sprinklers, I got a quote from a broker for the CA Fair Plan (the "insurer of last resort" for those who aren't familiar with it) at about $2000 a year, which is about a quarter of what I thought it was going to be. I've seen recent articles questioning it's solvency. Yikes. Sure hope that they're still insuring in four months when we finish our house and get occupancy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
