when it comes to intelligence, technology, and holding some key economic cards in their hands. They may not be able to overwhelm us but they can make things very difficult for us to operate the ease with which we're used to operating.
I heard our traditional foreign blindspot described as the US only playing half court tennis in international politics, always thinking there is no agency on the other side and we're the only ones dictating how the game will be played, which is how we end up with cream pipe on our faces quite frequently. In this case, I'm sure the US foreign policy gurus will assume all conditions will remain as is, and we're the only ones with agency on the court who can change the direction of the game.
