The idea behind the verification is that people living abroad won't be able to do it abroad. You can't call. I spent 3 months in the Philippines recently there's TONS of companies in the US, not just Netflix but banks, and others that will not let you access your account from there, the only way to do it is use a VPN so it doesn't know you're in the Philippines.

Now you're telling these older retired people who mostly don't have a computer they have to access their social security account online or in person to verify. So they have a phone, but you know damn well DOGE is going to set this up so you can't use VPN to access it, if the whole point is to verify who you are they're not going to let VPN disguise WHERE you are. So they can't actually confirm online.

So now you have lots of people who are by physically unable to make the trip to the US to verify, being forced to verify. And that's the plan for them, take away their benefits because they can't verify. You could of course set up a way for them to do it a video call, we talk to my mother in law all the time that way on FB for example. but they are NOT going to do that. They don't want then to be able to verify that's the point
