do any more damage to the US than Trump has done?
He’s been in office for less than 100 days, and the amount of damage that Donald Trump has done is incalculable. Off the top of my head, here are some:
- Appointed wildly un-qualified people to cabinet positions in critical areas, including national defense, education, health, and science
- Betrayed Ukraine, fractured our relationships with our allies, introduced fissures within NATO, and begun to re-align the US with (gulp) Russa and Belarus…
- Instituted extra-legal deportation policies highlighted by un-marked federal agents picking up people on the street and hustling them off to foreign prisons, without any judicial hearings or any legal justifications
- Gutted our national institutions for health, consumer protection, and science research.... this while a bird flu epidemic rages, and several potential human epidemics are on the near horizon (including measles)
- Used the power of the presidency to threaten law firms to bend to his will and promise to provide pro-bono services for his allies
- Pardoned hundreds of people convicted for the violent January 6 assault on our nation’s capital
- Launched political attacks on academia, and threatened to withdraw critical funding to universities
- Threatened federal programs that support millions of Americans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and even Social Security
- Threatened publicly to: take Greenland from our ally Denmark (against their will), make Canada our 51st state (against their will), mused about displacing nearly 2 million occupants of Gaza to create a resort (against their will), and threatened to take the Panama Canal (notice a pattern?)
- Used flawed logic and outright lies to initiate tariffs that will trigger trade wars that are likely to result in a domestic recession, possibly a worldwide recession… and perhaps a new Great Depression
- Dominated the Republican establishment so completely that the party has simply become an extension of DJT… which will likely result in the destruction of the party itself (wait for this to play out, it won’t be long… on the other hand, the implosion of the GOP may not matter because Trump will make sure that elections won’t mater….)
- Dismantled environmental policies that address climate change, and reversing course to actually increase the use of fossil fuels. Often overlooked due to his other offenses, the refusal to address climate change is Trump’s worst offense, as it threatens the survivability of Homo Sapiens…
So, really… is it possible to do more damage to our country?
