Craig, TampaTide…
Six weeks ago Craig, my friend of 50 years, called me to say he was prepping for a cruise to England in a week followed up with a fourth trip to Japan, his fav country. After years of multiple near death episodes with his heart he was doing well.
A month later he called in a groggy, barely lucid state to say he had been in the hospital for month. He wasn’t sure why or how he got there. He said he thought he heard a doctor mention esophageal cancer. He said for a month he’d been medicated almost out of consciousness.
That was two weeks ago. He’s now under hospice care at his stepdaughter’s home. His wife Ann died last year. He doesn’t understand his condition or know his diagnosis. He thinks he’s getting better. I told him and texted him to have his stepdaughter call me to give me more info, but she hasn’t called.
He is lucid and able to talk but clearly medicated. I suspect he won’t be around long.
