crude, rude, and frequently malicious during our run as the world's dominant imperial power after WWII, and so our current decline and fall is perhaps the ending we actually deserve. Especially ironic that it came not in the hands of a foreign power or natural disaster or some pandemic, but we're doing this by ourselves, with our own hands, though our own ill-conceived processes that we held on to with almost religious reverence. So there's that irony angle to all this too.
Pity that it had to happen on our time, but on the upside, we get the front row seat on a truly historical collapse and perhaps even a dissolution. It's like being there when the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs smashed into the earth. It's a sh*tshow but those of us who make it to the other side can say we were actually there when it happened.
