Our system has been so corrupted over the years, so deeply degraded, that Trump really did not have to work really hard to bring it all down. Successive SCOTUS decisions and perpetual (and self-serving) negligence brought us this close to making bribery legal in this country, falling one small step short of making bribery legal and official. And that last step came in the form of cryptocurrency which makes it possible to leave virtual bags of money with $ signs on them on Trump's table and nobody can do anything about them.
This is the same trajectory with everything else that Trump has been able to do, decades of methodical corrosion of the system which already was fairly anachronistic to begin with all made it easy for one loser with pathologically inflated sense of ego and 0 sense of shame or duty to bring the friggin' house of cards down.
I remember people disnmissing Trump's norm violation as merely a violation of norms and me resopnding that those norms are all we have holding the system together.
