Are you just assuming?
How drugs are paid for is broken.
Patents limit how long a company can make money on a drug.
Patents start at trying to prove the drug is safe not when it is given to the public.
Other countries negotiate for a lower drug price because they have socialized medicine.
Other countries don't respect our patent for drugs.
Drug companies end up having to make the bulk of their monies off of the US. Is there gauging? Absolutely.
The issue however is not just the gauging but the playing field our government has put our drug companies in.
