yeah, I'm not talking real life. A whole slew of police shows are clearly more realistic/authentic.
What I'm talking about are fully fleshed characters that act in a reasonable way. It's never "aww come on, really?" as opposed to "I can see that." When characters react to situations, as fantastic as they can be, in a logical manner any situation can be believable.
example: A monster is chasing a lady through the forest then she trips over a branch, falls down and is prey. A more authentic way to tell the story would have her be afraid of tripping over the branches and proceed just a tad slower and then have the monster trip over the branch.
actions dont always have to be based on historical precedence, it's lazy writing and takes me out of the story. and it gets an "Aww. come on"
another example. Typically, tv shows have a person sneaking into an office trying to get something. It's supposed to draw tension but for me its ridiculous. There was only one show that knew how to take advantage of the trope. Person of Interest. The character was so overpowered, you would want him to get caught to see if he would shot the person or beat him up. I got happy when he snuck into places.
Curiously, Poker Face played this trope in the 2nd episode of the season 2, where the character was sneaking into a place, Police Story style just a couple feet from the person, taking 35 mm pictures. She yelps and turns to get away and trips and . . . . well check out the episode.
