head on collision with Musk at the first cabinet meeting, yelling at him precisely that point, that he has planes falling off the skies while he (= Musk) is firing his air traffic controllers. So apparently firings stopped after that. I don't know if the first batch of firings were reversed or whether the new hirings are now trying to replace the ones that had been fired in the first round.
Recall that at the time, Musk was already pitching the idea that one of his companies would replace ATCs with AI. So firing them would have been something right up on his agenda, IMO.
