On the first point, sure, no objections from me

It would not be a bad idea to decommission DHS while we're at it.

On the second point, and for this one I am going to come back to a point I made numerous times in the context of the police force: I have no doubt that there are plenty of agents who are not racists themselves, as I also believe there are plenty of police officers who are decent human beings who'd be great fun to have around a backyard grill, for instance. And I am certain a bunch of them go to their jobs and put on their uniform with the best intentions in mind. BUT when certain types of situations arise, especially ones in which their training kicks in, and they have to stop being individuals and act like a part of a machine, I have no doubt that what takes over is not who they are personally but the cog that's part of the machine, and that person will look at a colored person as a de facto threat, someone who does not speak English as vermin, their infant children as bugs, and whatever else you can imagine would be the worst of the worst. They'd take the children away from the parents without a moment's reflection (which is not what they are trained to do) or place their knee on a dying man's neck without any concern.

That's duality of people who operate in a uniform and in a platoon like setting. There is often a separation between who they are privately, off uniform, and professionally, in uniform. That's because as they snap into the role they play, they are no longer that potentially, nice, lovely person they may be as an individual, but part of the larger body that, as I mentioned earlier, has its own character and personality, aspirations, ideology, what have you.

So yeah, i am pretty sure a lot of those people would feel like their hearts are being ripped off of their chest when they see a child wailing for their parent if they saw them at a shopping mall in real life, but once they are acting as an authority, they would not hesitate being the exact person that causes that child to wail at that mall as they are taking the parent away.
