My 2 cents. If you believe the stuff that was written post election about Pelosi, she tried repeatedly to get Biden to drop out and he refused. After the debate she went to him and said our internal polling shows Trump with over 400 electoral votes, and he finally agreed to drop out. IIRC they said 406 electoral votes but don't quote me. He got 312 so Harris got a +88 on what Dems internal polling said post debate.
If you believe the polling at some point Harris actually WAS ahead but she fell down the stretch because Musk poured billions into the campaign and they broke away voters over Palestine, over Israel, and other things. Harris' big mistake apparently was not distancing herself from Biden, also the GOP was very "smart" in that they created all the hype about the border and then blamed it on Harris the border czar. They presumably knew Biden was possibly not going to be the candidate so they wanted to nail Harris with something that wasn't her fault but that she couldn't credibly deny since she was at least involved with the border.
So in theory a better candidate might have won.
It's just not clear to me who, Elon fundamentally changed the election as did the "assassination" attempt which really fired up the base. And somehow Trump convinced lots of first time voters that when they were in middle school things were great and Biden and Harris ruined it.
Said it befoe i worked with people in 2024 who said Covid was better under Trump than Biden because they didn't have to go into work everyday, very hard to argue with people like that.
I'm in the minority I know but I actually like Harris I think she would have been a terrific POTUS, but the California thing hurt and I think being a black woman also hurt. If you don't agree with that ask yourself how does Trump accuse her of pretending to be black and not lose in a landslide? Because lots of people didn't want to vote for a black woman IMO and used that as an excuse
