but if history has shown anything, that is most emphatically *not* how the masses vote. It may be insane, but that's how it goes. Masses by definition do not tend to act rationally.

And I think Harris did more than enough to win if this country had half a brain.

For those of us who follow politics and have reasons to fear the expected right wing backlash against people like us would agree. People who don't really follow politics beyond their day to day lives, who can't tell parties from one another because, to be fair, neither one has had any direct impact on their lives thus far that they can remember, and so couldn't care less about the backlash that was about to come the way they didn't even know personally, those people needed to be given a reason they can relate to in order to vote for Harris above and beyond all the reasons the other guys were providing, which felt more immediate to them.

They are under no obligation to vote the way we want them to vote because we're somehow convinced that voting our way is for their benefit too. If all they're seeing is the snark about the they/them pronouns, it needs to be explained to them why that matters. It is not their job to do research on what the value of the use of they/them pronoun is for people who they personally couldn'tr care less about.

You go to elections with the populace you have, not the enlightened masses you would've prefered.

That's my take.
