them decisively that they are incorrect? Do they make any adjustments in their beliefs, however minor? I doubt it. I'm pretty sure what they do is to first stretch things, like "well, if he didn't do it, then he wanted to do it" or "I'm sure he would've done it if he could". At worst, they would drop that claim and come up with something else.

Why? Because facts are tangential. Facts (or rather, what they believe to be facts) are the by product of their beliefs, not the other way around. What they're really doing is building a narrative that captures how they feel about Biden (or whoever). If you take one "fact" away from them, they will find something else. That's why having a factual argument with a true believer is no different than trying to present a religious person logic and science to show them they should not belief in God. You are starting from a premise they claim they start (facts, logic) because they would like to think that's their starting point, but it is not.
